In April, 2015, Dr. Alden was appointed to the position of Provost of Touro University Nevada. In this role, he has oversight over the academic, research, clinical and service programs of the Nevada campus of Touro University, which is located in Henderson, NV.
Previously, Dr. Alden has served in a number of administrative leadership positions at three rapidly developing, doctoral/research universities: Northern Illinois University (NIU); University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) and Old Dominion University (ODU). At NIU, Dr. Alden served in the role of Vice President for International Affairs and as the Executive Vice President and Provost (EVP/P). Dr. Alden has also served as both the EVP/P and as Dean of Sciences at UNLV. He served as Director of a multidisciplinary environmental program and as a full Professor of Biological Sciences at ODU. He has had oversight for the creation of dozens of new degree programs from the baccalaureate to the doctoral levels; for establishing 8 new professional schools; for the hiring of hundreds of new faculty and staff members; for the development of over a dozen new multidisciplinary research and service centers; for the design and programming of 26 new/renovated academic buildings; and for the acquisition of land and master planning of two biomedical campuses, a research park, a multi-institutional campus and two international campuses.
Dr. Alden has a B.S. in Biology from Stetson University, a Ph.D. in Zoology from University of Florida, and was a postdoctoral fellow at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He has been inducted into four national and international academic honor societies and has received a number of commendations for excellence in professional service. Dr. Alden has served in leadership roles in a number of national higher education organizations. Dr. Alden has been an editor for three professional publications, and has served as scientific advisor to numerous state and Federal agencies, including service as an expert witness for a U.S. Congressional Subcommittee. He has served as principal investigator on over $30M of grants/contracts, has authored over 250 scientific publications and reports, and has made over 100 invited presentations at professional meetings.
