Mark graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in accounting in May, 1979 (with distinction) and earned his Certified Public Accountant license in July, 1981. He is also Certified in Financial Forensics, CFF (AICPA designation).
He began his career as a public accountant with a national accounting firm immediately following graduation.
In 1982, he left to begin his own public practice and is currently the founding Partner of Rich, Wightman & Company CPAs. He has been an expert witness in District, State and Federal Courts regarding various accounting matters and regularly presents fraud prevention and investigation lectures to university students, banking professionals, insurance professionals, attorneys, and CEOs.
Mark is dedicated to the entrepreneurial spirit of Nevada and believes strongly in the revitalization of the Downtown Las Vegas area. He is actively involved in efforts to save the historic Huntridge Theater. His firm recently opened a second office on Fremont Street that is also used for giving back to the community by offering business seminars, mentoring for startup businesses and organizing community social events. Mark is also dedicated to his alma mater the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). His Firm also supports UNLV through donations to the UNLV Foundation, athletics and the Lee Business School Accounting Department. His Firm was a major donor to the UNLV Mendenhall Complex and exclusively recruits UNLV Alumni.
His professional memberships include the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and participant in the AICPA and Nevada Society Peer Review Program. Mark has served as a Board Member of the UNLV College of Business and on the UNLV Planned Giving Advisors Board, and has been a member of many boards and charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity in the past. Mark is an active member of the UNLV Alumni Board and C12 Christian Business Owners Group. The UNLV Lee Business School named Mark D. Rich the 2014 Departmental Alumnus of the Year for Accounting.
